Pick one statement piece, a ball gown or a floor-length cloak, and keep the rest simple. Deep red lips, a pale base and one piece of silver jewelry do more than a full set of accessories. If you plan to dance, choose a cloak you can take off and carry, and wear shoes you can stand in for hours.
A gown and a cloak from the same color family make an easy pair. For a group, agree on a palette (black and oxblood, or black and ivory) and let everyone choose their own silhouette, so the photos look intentional without matching exactly.
Skip the fake blood and let the silhouette carry it: a long gown or floor-length cloak, a pale base, a deep red lip and one piece of silver jewelry. Texture such as velvet or lace adds more than props do.
A hooded cloak or long cape over dark tailoring is the simplest route. Add a high collar or a cravat-style scarf, slick the hair back and keep the makeup to a pale base and a little shadow under the cheekbones.
